![]() During the date, Charlie discovers that Jack and his partner are really detectives who are investigating her uncle. Young Charlie finds herself attracted to the younger of the two men, Jack Graham (Macdonald Carey), who asks her out that night. When one of the men does take his picture, Charlie demands the film roll from him. Uncle Charlie refuses to be involved, and insists that his picture not be taken. Uncle Charlie’s behavior becomes even stranger when two men come to the house and ask to study the family for a survey. However, Young Charlie notices a few instances of strange behavior from Uncle Charlie, including an attempt to destroy a certain section of the newspaper. At first, the visit goes perfectly: Uncle Charlie brings gifts for the entire family, including an emerald ring for Young Charlie. When they receive news that Uncle Charlie Oakley (Joseph Cotton) is coming for a visit, the entire family is excited. Charlie is named after her favorite uncle, her mother’s (Patricia Collinge) youngest brother Charles. SUMMARY: Charlotte “Charlie” Newton (Teresa Wright) is a teenager living in Santa Rosa, California with her parents and two younger siblings.
